To be cited by AI assistants and AI Overviews, publish pages that answer a specific question directly in the first two sentences, support the answer with concrete figures and dates, mark up the page with FAQ, Service and Organization schema, keep facts consistent across your site and third-party listings, and earn mentions on sources the model already trusts.
What changes when buyers ask an assistant instead of typing a search — and the page structure that gets quoted.
Answer first, context second
Assistants extract the passage that answers the question, not the page that ranks. Put a direct, self-contained answer in the opening 40 to 60 words of any page targeting a question, then expand below. If the answer only makes sense after three paragraphs of preamble, it will not be quoted.
Be specific and be datable
Models favour passages with concrete numbers, named jurisdictions and clear timeframes. A page saying registration takes 7 to 15 working days in Maharashtra is quotable. One saying it takes a few days is not. Add and maintain a visible last-updated date.
Consistency across the web
Assistants cross-check. If your address, hours, services or founding year differ between your site, your Google listing and a directory, confidence drops and you are less likely to be cited. Audit your top twenty listings once a year.
Structured data does real work here
FAQPage, Service, LocalBusiness and Organization markup give a machine unambiguous facts instead of asking it to infer them from prose. It is cheap to add and it is the closest thing to speaking the model's language.
What has not changed
Assistants draw heavily on pages that already rank and sources that already carry authority. AI search optimisation is not a replacement for SEO; it is a formatting discipline applied on top of it.
